In a phenomenal achievement for Indian cinema, Stolen, the gripping debut feature directed by Karan Tejpal and produced by Gaurav Dhingra under Jungle Book Studio, has taken the world by storm. Within just 72 hours of its global launch, the crime thriller has broken into the Top 10 on Prime Video in multiple countries including India, the US, UK, Germany, France, Australia, New Zealand, Netherlands, and Singapore.

A taut, emotional, investigative thriller centred around a child abduction, Stolen has been hailed as one of the most compelling Indian films of the year. It stars Abhishek Banerjee in a powerful lead role, supported by Harish Khanna, Mia Maelzer, Sahidur Rahaman, and Shubham Vardhan.

The film premiered at the prestigious Venice Film Festival and has since enjoyed a critically acclaimed international festival run. The global success of Stolen marks a rare moment in cinema, where a debut feature has connected so swiftly and deeply with audiences across continents.

Executive produced by a powerhouse team of Indian cinema—Anurag Kashyap, Kiran Rao, Nikkhil Advani, and Vikramaditya Motwane—Stolen has also been co-written by Karan Tejpal, Swapnil Salkar (Agadbumb), and Gaurav Dhingra.

Reflecting on the film’s extraordinary rise, Producer and Co-writer Gaurav Dhingra said, “I always envisioned Stolen as a story that would touch, move, and inspire audiences across borders — beyond language and culture. That belief lies at the very heart of Jungle Book Studio. The explosive global response has only deepened my conviction to continue creating stories that resonate universally. We’re deeply grateful to Prime Video for providing a platform where stories like ours can reach hearts and homes around the world.”

Director and Co-writer Karan Tejpal added, “It’s overwhelming—in the best way—to see Stolen connect so deeply, so quickly, and across so many countries. We always intended it to be an urgent, emotional story, but the immediacy with which it has resonated worldwide is beyond anything we imagined. I’m deeply grateful to everyone who believed in the story from the very beginning.”

The film has also earned ringing endorsements from its executive producers Anurag Kashyap called the film “a gut-punch… visceral, bold, and unapologetic,” saying, “Watching audiences across countries engage with it so powerfully is deeply rewarding. I think its success should teach our distributors and platforms that good storytelling triumphs over celebrity packaging. The number of people and platforms that passed on this film over the past two years should hang their heads in shame.”

Kiran Rao remarked, “Stolen is an adrenaline rush and a truth bomb rolled into one exciting ride. Karan’s ability to keep me at the edge of my seat, while giving me complex characters and a raw, ringside view of contemporary India, is simply stellar.”

Nikkhil Advani noted, “When a story resonates this strongly across countries, it proves the universal power of cinema. We backed Stolen because it had truth and tension—and it’s thrilling to see audiences respond to it with such urgency.”

Vikramaditya Motwane added, “From the very beginning, Stolen felt like a film with both urgency and purpose. It’s incredibly rewarding to see it resonate so widely and receive the recognition it truly deserves.”

Currently streaming on Prime Video, Stolen is being celebrated as one of the year’s most important and impactful films—a project that not only elevates debut storytelling, but also reaffirms the power of rooted, honest cinema to connect globally.

If you haven’t seen Stolen yet, now is the time to experience the film that’s rewriting the rules of what Indian cinema can achieve on the world stage.

The fan screening of Raanjhanaa (2013) was held at a multiplex in Mumbai on the occasion of its 12th anniversary by DIY Solutions and was attended by the film’s team – actors Dhanush and Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub, then-child-actor Naman Jain, director Aanand L Rai, writer Himanshu Sharma and lyricist Irshad Kamil. Sonam Kapoor couldn’t make it and the team kept a picture of her on the seat. The event began with the screening of the film after which stand-up comic Devansh Singh entertained the crowd. Laksh Maheshwari, then, in his trademark style narrated the film’s story and also hosted the talk.

Dhanush began by saying, “Har Har Mahadev!” He continued, “12 years later, you guys are still here to watch this film. My heartfelt thanks to all of you. As he (Laksh Maheshwari) said, this is not our film anymore. So, you guys are here to celebrate your film!”

He added, “None of the scenes were tough for me. I deal with all the scenes in the same way. The toughest part was the dubbing. I dubbed myself. Now, I can at least say a few words, but back then, I did not know the Hindi language. Himanshu and I wanted to kill each other. Himanshu would be there when I was dubbing. He would correct me. I’ll say ‘Baabi’ and he’ll say, ‘Its Bhabhi’. I’ll argue, ‘I said the same thing’! He would remark that its ‘Bha’ and I would pronounce it as ‘Ba’! Hence, it was tougher for him than for me. However, I was very angry with him as I used to dub Tamil films in a day while dubbing for Raanjhanaa took 8-9 days. It kept going and I was getting frustrated.”

The host asked Dhanush if it was difficult for him to adapt to the body language of a North Indian man. The superstar quipped, “That’s not true. I didn’t do anything. Body language means what? All boys are the same!”

He then stated, “I just copied what Himanshu told me. I didn’t understand the pronunciation, which word to stress and also the body language like you said. He would send me voice notes every night. He used to talk so fast that I thought it was better I would prepare without the voice notes (smiles)!”
