India Pakistan Attack Live Updates: Ablackout was enforced and sirens went off after artillery firing and explosions were heard in Jammu this evening. Explosions were heard in Rajasthan’s Barmer, Pokhran and Jaisalmer. Drones were spotted in several parts of Punjab.
Pakistan’s armed forces launched multiple attacks using drones and other munitions along the entire western border on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, which were “effectively repulsed”, the Indian Army has said.
Besides, the Pakistani troops resorted to “numerous ceasefire violations” along the Line of Control in Jammu & Kashmir and, in return, got a “befitting reply,” it added.
The developments came amid increasing hostilities between the two countries, initially triggered by the Pahalgam terror attack. India has pointed at Pakistan’s role in the attack, a charge dismissed by the neighbouring country.
On Friday, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh conducted a comprehensive review of national security with the top military leadership and held discussions with top officials. A high alert was sounded in Delhi, and all city government employees’ leaves have been cancelled. Several district administrations in Punjab have issued orders to enforce blackouts during night hours. Around 27 airports in various parts of the country have been shut.
India on Wednesday, under the codename ‘Operation Sindoor’, unleashed 24 missiles in 25 minutes on nine terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) in response to the Pahalgam attack that killed 26 people. In the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday, it foiled Pakistan’s attempt to engage a number of military targets across 15 cities in northern and western India using drones and missiles.
Here are the Live Updates on India-Pakistan tension:
Recent hostilities with Pakistan ended in a ceasefire announced on Saturday.
“This is a new normal, there will be no business as usual,” the sources said.
New Delhi:
Pakistan should see uncertainty as the new normal and there will be no discussion with the country on Kashmir, sources said on Sunday. Responding to US President Donald Trump’s post offering to “work with” India and Pakistan towards a solution on Kashmir, the sources said there is no change in New Delhi’s stance that Kashmir is and will always be a bilateral issue between the countries.
Four days of hostilities, during which India carried out precision strikes on terrorist infrastructure and airbases in Pakistan and Islamabad attacked civilian and military sites with drones and missiles, culminated in a ceasefire on Saturday.
In a surprising move, the ceasefire was announced by Mr Trump on Saturday evening and then confirmed by India and Pakistan. New Delhi said the Pakistan Director General of Military Operations had called up his Indian counterpart and a ceasefire was agreed upon, which came into effect at 5pm on Saturday.
On Sunday, Mr Trump took to his social media platform Truth Social again and said that he would work with both countries to see if “a solution can be arrived at concerning Kashmir”.
“I am very proud of the strong and unwaveringly powerful leadership of India and Pakistan for having the strength, wisdom, and fortitude to fully know and understand that it was time to stop the current aggression that could have led to the death and destruction of so many, and so much. Millions of good and innocent people could have died! Your legacy is greatly enhanced by your brave actions. I am proud that the USA was able to help you arrive at this historic and heroic decision,” the US president wrote.
“While not even discussed, I am going to increase trade, substantially, with both of these great Nations. Additionally, I will work with you both to see if, after a ‘thousand years,’ a solution can be arrived at concerning Kashmir. God Bless the leadership of India and Pakistan on a job well done!!!” he added.
The sources, however, said that there will be no discussion with Pakistan regarding Kashmir and that India’s stance has not changed. Kashmir, they emphasised, is – and will always remain – a bilateral issue between India and Pakistan.
‘Uncertainty New Normal’
India has stressed that the initial escalation came from the Pakistani side with the April 22 attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, in which 26 people were killed. The sources said it was apparent after the attack that the nation has had enough and India’s response should make it clear that uncertainty is the new normal for Pakistan.
“The attack on Bahawalpur (the headquarters of the Masood Azhar-led terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed) is comeuppance for the ISI. No matter where you are, we will hit you,” the sources warned, adding that India had gone for the “head of the snake” and not for soldiers.
On the continued suspension of the Indus Waters treaty, the sources said Pakistan cannot expect to carry out terrorism and expect cooperation in the areas it wants. “This is a new normal, there will be no business as usual,” they said.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in a post on X said he heard some “explosions” in Srinagar.
Minutes later, many residents of the city posted visuals on X showing what they claimed was tracer fire by anti-aircraft guns at incoming drones in the night sky.
Mr Abdullah’s post came hours after both India and Pakistan announced they had agreed to a ceasefire. US President Donald Trump had also made the same announcement about the two nuclear-armed neighbours.
“What the hell just happened to the ceasefire? Explosions heard across Srinagar,” Mr Abdullah said in the post on X.
Soon, he posted an update, which contained a video: “This is no ceasefire. The air defence units in the middle of Srinagar just opened up.”
The Ludhiana district commissioner (DC) said there is nothing to worry as of now. They may have to enforce a blackout depending on the situation, and the armed forces along with the district administration are monitoring the situation.
In Patiala, the DC said they will inform the public well in time if there is any imminent threat, but there is nothing to worry at the moment.
In Amritsar, the DC said there are reports of ceasefire violations and they will enforce a blackout if and when needed.
“… I advise all to kindly be prepared for enforcement of a blackout if the need arises and be at home/indoors… We have done this drill several times, so please don’t panic. This is by way of abundant caution,” the Amritsar DC said in a public message.
Pakistan ignored India’s warnings about non-escalation and not targeting military installations, and fired missiles at 15 Indian cities late Wednesday and early Thursday. India responded by disabling Pak air defence radars at several places, including Lahore.
New Delhi:
Pakistan attempts late last night and early this morning to escalate tension with India by targeting military installations in 15 cities in the northern and western parts of the country – including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, and Gujarat – have been negated, the government said Thursday.
The government said Indian forces responded by targeting and neutralising Pakistani Air Defence Radars and systems in several locations, including Lahore, in response to Pak attempts to attack military facilities in Srinagar, Pathankot, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Chandigarh, and other locations.
Indian forces’ response, the government underlined this afternoon, was “in the same domain (and) with the same intensity” as the attacks launched by Pakistan. Click here for Operation Sindoor Live Updates
Pak forces used drones and missiles that were disabled by India’s air defence systems.
Debris from the destroyed drones and missiles is being collected, the government said, and will add to the volume of evidence supporting India’s charges that Pakistan, or the Pak deep state, supports cross-border terrorism targeting India, whether by financial funding or military training.
Attempted military action against India comes a day after Indian armed forces’ carried out precision strikes at four terrorist camps in Pak and five in Pak-occupied Kashmir, or PoK.
India targeted terror bases and terrorist training camps in Pak and Pak-occupied Kashmir.
Operation Sindoor, as the strikes were codenamed, spanned a 25-minute period that began Wednesday morning at 1.05 am and included a barrage of 24 munitions – from HAMMER smart bombs to SCALP missiles – that destroyed terrorist groups’ HQs and training camps.
Over 100 terrorists were killed in the strikes, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said this afternoon.
Op Sindoor was in response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
Four terrorists from The Resistance Front, a Lashkar-e-Taiba proxy, killed 26 people, many of whom were civilians, at the Baisaran Valley, a tourist hotspot less than 70 km from J&K capital Srinagar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had vowed vengeance against those responsible.
In a press briefing Wednesday afternoon the Army and Air Force said Sindoor targets had been chosen based on credible intelligence, and that its action was “focused, measured, and non-escalatory”.
The armed forces also pointed out Pak military establishments were not targeted.
The targets chosen included Muridke in Pak’s Punjab province, which housed Lashkar’s HQ and a training camp. The HQ and training camp of another terrorist group – Jaish-e-Mohammed, which was involved in the 2019 Pulwama attack that killed 40 Indian soldiers – was also razed.
Pakistan then was also put on notice; that any attack on Indian military targets will lead to further strikes. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh reiterated that warning this morning at an all-party briefing, telling opposition leaders Operation Sindoor is “ongoing” based on Pak’s actions.
The government, meanwhile, has also pointed out that Pakistan has steadily increased the intensity of cross-border firing and shelling, beginning within 24 hours after the Pahalgam attack.
Mortars and heavy calibre artillery shells are now being fired across the border in the Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri sectors, the government said.
So far 16 civilians have been killed, including three women and five children.
One Indian soldier has also died, the government said, as it also underlined, again, the Indian military’s commitment to non-escalation provided this is also respected by the Pak Army.
