Women in Film India (WIF India), the newly launched chapter of the global Women in Film network, makes its official debut this month under the leadership of Academy Award-winning producer Guneet Monga Kapoor. The organization marks its launch with the unveiling of its official website — www.womeninfilmindia.org. This debut signals the beginning of several upcoming programs that WIF India will roll out shortly. The first initiative kicks off at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival — a special program spotlighting three women producers from India. The website is now open to the public, who can join by registering for membership, keeping themselves updated on upcoming initiatives, and other resources.

Backed by Women In Film Los Angeles (WIF LA), WIF India joins a global coalition of over 50 chapters across six continents working to advance gender equity in the entertainment industry. The launch signals a major milestone for India’s creative community and builds on decades of international advocacy for representation in film, television, and media.

“With WIF India, we’re putting real structure behind the idea of equality-mentorship, access, and leadership pathways,” said Guneet Monga Kapoor, Founder of WIF India. “This launch is just the beginning of a long-term commitment to investing in women not just for today, but for the future of the Indian entertainment industry.”

To commemorate its debut, WIF India is introducing The Women in Film India Fellowship: Cannes Producers Edition, a flagship program designed to elevate mid-career women producers by providing them with access to the Producers Network at the Marché du Film at Cannes, an influential forum for global collaboration in cinema.

This year’s inaugural scholarship recipients are:

Tillotama Shome – Acclaimed award-winning actor and emerging producer known for her iconic roles in films like Sir, Lust Stories 2, and has recently become a producer with a Bengali feature film, Baksho Bondi (Shadowbox).

Rucha Pathak – A veteran studio executive and creative producer having worked films like Paan Singh Tomar, Neerja, Barfi and most recently Madgaon Express.

Dimpy Agarwal – independent producer known for socially conscious storytelling, who is also a co-producer on Baksho Bondi and has worked on award-winning films like Chashma, Umeed, and Monica O My Darling.

In addition to this, in a special initiative under this program, WIF India has also awarded an Accreditation Grant to an outstanding woman producer from the Marathi film industry — Shefali Bhushan, whose film Sthal is being showcased at the Cannes Film Market.

Kirsten Schaffer, Chief Executive Officer, Women in Film, said, “Our partnership with Women in Film, India marks an important step toward building a strong, interconnected community that supports women across all aspects of the screen industries. This fellowship is a key part of the solution to ensuring that women have equal opportunity to create high-quality film and television”.

Each producer brings a distinct voice and a powerful body of work to Cannes, representing the diversity and ambition of India’s evolving film landscape. The program offers recipients insight into international co-production and financing landscapes, as well as mentorship and networking at a global scale. Participants are also encouraged to share their learnings with the broader WIF India community, expanding the reach of the program beyond the festival.

WIF India is governed by a distinguished Board of Directors representing all facets of India’s film and media ecosystem, including: Siddharth Roy Kapur, Karan Johar, Faye D’Souza, Anupama Chopra, Tahira Kashyap, Gauri Shinde, Nikhil Advani, Jyoti Deshpande, Gayatri Yadav, Aparna Purohit, Varun Grover, Kanika Dhillon, Vani Tripathi, Miriam Joseph, Ekta Kapoor, Twinkle Khanna, and Guneet Monga Kapoor.

Together, they are committed to building a dynamic and inclusive future for Indian women in entertainment – from grassroots creators to global changemakers. WIF India welcomes creators, professionals, and allies across the entertainment industry to become part of its growing network, with membership officially open.

On the occasion of World Yoga Day today, actress Sandeepa Dhar’s words strike a chord with many who turn to yoga not just for physical fitness, but for inner clarity. She said exclusively, “Yoga teaches us what we often forget in life. To be fully present. To feel every breath. To inhale with awareness. To exhale with intent.” These words highlight a core truth — that yoga, at its heart, is about mindful living.

EXCLUSIVE: Sandeepa Dhar on World Yoga Day, “Yoga teaches us what we often forget in life”

In an age where hurried routines and constant notifications dominate daily life, yoga becomes a grounding force. More than a sequence of postures, it is a practice of presence. The emphasis on breath — the most basic yet often overlooked element of life — is central to this philosophy.

Sandeepa added, “When I am immersed in my Yoga routine, every fibre of my being is at peace.” What the actress has said resonates with the experience of countless practitioners. It speaks to the sense of stillness and alignment that yoga can offer, even amidst life’s chaos.

World Yoga Day, observed annually on June 21, serves as a global reminder of the power of this practice — not as a trend, but as a timeless tool for balance. Whether you’re on a mat in a city studio or stretching in your living room, the invitation remains the same: to pause, breathe, and return to yourself.

On the work front, Sandeepa will next be seen in the movie Firrkie. Along with her, it also stars Neil Nitin Mukesh, Jackie Shroff, Kay Kay Menon and Karan Singh Grover.

Anupam Kher reflects on DDLJ and says, “No, I don’t think it would work today”; describes changing times, and the evolution of romance in cinema : Bollywood News

Veteran actor Anupam Kher has shared a candid reflection on the changing portrayal of romance in cinema, using the iconic Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ) as a reference point. In a recent interview with India Today, Kher expressed nostalgia for the kind of emotionally resonant storytelling that once defined Bollywood’s golden romantic era.

“I’m longing to see a love story where there’s a certain amount of kashish. That’s why I felt Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam was such a beautiful romantic film — Sanjay Leela Bhansali captured that essence so well. It had all of that,” Kher said, expressing his desire to see more heartfelt narratives on screen.

But his most striking insight was on DDLJ, a film he himself was part of, playing the lighthearted and supportive father of Shah Rukh Khan’s character. Directed by Aditya Chopra, DDLJ (1995) redefined modern romance in Indian cinema and remains one of the longest-running films in Indian theatrical history.

Reflecting on its enduring popularity, Kher commented, “No, I don’t think it would [work the same way today]. Today, it works because of its nostalgic value. But if it were made for the first time now, it wouldn’t have had the same impact. Just like Gone with the Wind — if it were made today, it wouldn’t resonate the same way.”

He explained that the societal context in which DDLJ was released played a key role in its success. “Back then, in the late ’90s and earlier, we had stories of couples eloping. But DDLJ was the first time when the hero said, ‘I will convince your father. Only then will we marry.’ That was new. The father tells his son, ‘You failed in London? Good. We’ve all failed in India too.’ These were fresh, grounded characters. Now, things are different.”

Kher went on to say, “Samaaj badal gaya hai (society has changed). Films reflect society. If you make an old-school love story now, maybe only a few people will go watch it. Love, at its core, may remain the same — but the way we express, portray, and understand it changes with every generation,” he concluded.

In an interview with Instant Bollywood Podcast, Kajol expressed admiration for Kriti’s growth over the years, both professionally and personally. Speaking about the transformation she witnessed between Dilwale and Do Patti, she said, “Definitely there is major difference in her… I would say all for better, much more rounded as an actress, much more rounded as a person, obviously doing new things, yes there was huge change in her.”

Do Patti, released last year, marked a turning point in Kriti’s career—not just as an actor but also as a producer. The film was part of Kriti’s 2024 hat-trick run, which included the sci-fi romance Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya where she played a robot named Sifra, the stylish heist comedy The Crew, and the gripping thriller Do Patti, in which she played a double role. All three films showcased Kriti’s versatility and earned her both commercial success and critical acclaim.

As she rides high on one of the most successful years of her career, Kriti’s journey continues with an exciting lineup ahead. Fans are especially looking forward to her reunion with Dhanush in Tere Ishk Mein, which promises to be a powerful romantic intense drama.

With industry peers like Kajol cheering her on and a fanbase that’s growing stronger by the day, Kriti Sanon is clearly entering the most dynamic phase of her cinematic journey.
