Just before the release of JioHotstar’s show Mistry, its lead actor Ram Kapoor got embroiled in a controversy. He was removed from the promotions of the show after he made some inappropriate comments during an interview. Later on, in an interview with Times Of India, Kapoor accepted his guilt.

In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Ram Kapoor said that this is the first time in his 25-year-old career that he got involved in a controversy. He said that he was “shocked” when the controversy erupted. “I wasn’t aware till I was told,” he said. “So, it came as a shock for sure. But I immediately knew that it’s a situation that immediately needs to be handled. And I wanted to take my time to handle it correctly. I didn’t want to do anything…. That’s why I took a whole day and a half to come up with my response.”
Speaking further on the issue, he said, “Of course, I was shocked. But I said to my family that guys I need some time. Luckily, they said, yes take whatever time. I realized I had to handle this correctly for my fans, myself, my staff and my children. So, I took my time to think how I would want to respond and what all to say. I wanted to make sure I handle it in a way that I look in the mirror and say that I am satisfied. So, that’s what I did. I came up with my response. And I am satisfied with how I handled it and I mean everything I said.”
Kapoor is happy that Mistry has been accepted by the audience despite the controversy. “I just want to thank everybody,” he said. “I want to thank the audience. I want to thank media and press people for the response I have got for Mistry, in spite of the controversy and everything. I couldn’t have asked for better. The audience has respected my work regardless of everything, also the media who have reached out to be to say how good I was in Mistry and how much they like the show.”
Overwhelmed by the response, Kapoor added, “I don’t mind going through controversies again and again and again as long as my work is liked this much. It’s all that matters to me.”
